John Goto.

John Goto is a british artist best known for his photo-digital artworks he was born in Stockport, England in 1949. He has worked with historical, social and political subjects throughout his career. his photographs include a series of people added to a different background, some of the backgrounds seem very unlikely that they would be there, but some include everyday places such as B&Q and McDonalds. i do not feel that Goto's images look very realistic at all, i think that they look copied and pasted but this could have been deliberate. unlike him, i tried my best to make my objects blend with my background. However, it seems the people's facial expressions and body language fit well with the background. For example, in the first image the people look worried and as if they are balancing to give the effect they are actually on the water. our images are both dramatically different in the way that i have used nature and landscapes to create a detailed monochrome photograph, trying very hard to make the image interesting and lifelike. However, Goto's image are brightly coloured and eyecatching but i think that they are not very realistic and i am not a fan of his work.

Evaluation.

i have photographed a delicate landscape, which also includes a small amount of wildlife. my final piece is a fantasy landscape, when doing this we were asked to take a series of photos including backgrounds/landscapes and close up images. when taking the close up images it was important that they were in focus otherwise the image would be less effective. Once we had taken the series of images, we had to pick one background and one item to create a final piece. the idea was to add an item or building to a background it does not belong in, without making it seem to unrealistic. in my image, i added a sign post and a tower. i think i blended them both very well and made it look very realistic. i had a few attempts at this, including ducks and flowers but found that the tower and post worked better against the background.  The obvious computer soft ware was photoshop, this was really help and i used alot of newly learnt tools including;
magnetic lasso tool- which helped me to cut out both items
quick mask mode- which was an accurate and easy way to get a perfect object with any unwanted background or items.
i came across a few problems such as blurry items did not look realistic against the background, or i was not happy with the outcome. but after settling down on my final background i found it easy to choose items to fit it. i think that i have chosen the items well and that they do not look to obvious, if not at all.
Seung Woo back is my main influence in this project, i really enjoy her work and think it is very creative. i tried to base my photograph around her work and her unusual ideas. even though my image is not as interesting as Woo Back's i am still very please with my final image. I feel that i have done very well in creating a Fantasy landscape. however if i was to re-do this project, i would have like to do something more fun or have a better focused item to use.

Before and after.

Seung Woo Back.

Seung Woo Back's work includes taking famous monuments and placing them in unfamiliar places. i have moved a well known building in Burton On Trent to another area. Just like her, i have tried to blend my objects well into the background and make them look realistic, Seung Woo back has done this very well, and has clearly thought about were she will place the monuments. i can tell this, because in the picture including the pyramids the background includes sand heaps which could be mistaken so sand dunes, i think this was intentional. i tried to do this is my image, by carefully blending the tower behind the trees. Unlike Woo Back, i decided to change my image into black and white because i feel this makes the photograph look more realistic and dramatic.

Final Image!

This is my final image, my aim was to make it look as realistic as possible, but at the same time still making it noticeable that some items are out of place. i chose to put my image in black and white because i think it makes the image look more realistic and detailed.

Types of Lasso.

Fantasy Landscape.

The tool i used here is called the quick mask
tool, this allows you to see if you have missed any areas of the image while using
one of the three lasso's. Aswell as rubbing away unwanted areas,
you can also add back in areas that you may have missed my accident.

Here it is show the post has been selected, when cutting round the
post i used the 'magnetic lasso' tool as i felt that this was easier for this
item. After this i copied and pasted the post on to my background. Then i had to
bare in mind where and what size the post would be, so it doesn't look unrealistic.
The bottom tool of the circle in a rectangle, is the quick mask mode tool.

Vinyetting.

Colour+Black and White.

Text

Add Colour

Vinyetting

firstly i clicked onto the paintbrush tool, checking that it was set onto a soft edge brush then change the brush size, colour and opacity. After creating a new layer, i drew the lines making sure i held SHIFT so that the lines were perfectly straight. Then i blurred the edges by clicking Filter, Blur, Gaussain Blur and chose how blurred i would like the border.

Duane Michals.

Are your image/images and Duane Michals both in colour or black and white?
my four images are in colour, i left them in colour as i think the vibrant greens and autumn leaves give a very warm feeling. On the other hand, Duane's photographs look more proffesional in black and white, the tones and shadows are very strong. If i was to re-edit my images i experiment with black and white to see if monochrome has the same effect on my images.

Are your image/images and Duane Michals part of a series of individual images?
Both mine and Michal's photographs create a series in which the movement used in the images is continuous. However as i had fewer images than Duane used, my images do not seem to flow unlike his.

Are your image/images and Duane Michals both large or small?
Our images are similar sizes, my images seem to be bigger as there are fewer of them. Also my images seem larger as i have included a thin, black border unlike Michal's who has not included

Dwayne Michals.

Cropping.

i cropped my images and made them bigger.

Arranging Photographs.

Making a new file.

To make a new file i had to select file, new and then choose 'international paper' and the size of the paper. Also making sure that the resolution is at 300 to ensure that the quality is at its highest.

Format/Saving.

There are 3 different formats that we have been told to use. JPEG is for saving experiments, TIFF is the best format to use for final images and Photoshop is used if you are only using one computer. It is important to remember that JPEG compresses images, which loses the image quality, where as the other two keep the image size/file at its highest quality.

File Name.

To change the file name, you must click the file name twice and then edit it.
